CHOPiN, as part of promoting organ music and music education, has organized a competition for organists. It is aimed at educating organists in the art of organ playing. The jury for the competition was carefully selected, music educators as well as a German professor of music and his wife who is also an organist, Prof Thorsten Maeder. The finale and concert are scheduled to be in April 2023.

REGISTRATION:

*Registration starts on Tuesday, 1st of November 2022

*Participants are required to pay the sum of #10,000 (Ten Thousand Naira only) to the designated bank account to validate their application

*Participants are expected to indicate their willingness to participate by submitting the registration form on or before Friday, 3rd February 2023

*THIS COMPETITION WILL HAVE TWO CATEGORIES

- ADVANCED CATEGORY

- STANDARD CATEGORY

*THIS COMPETITION WILL BE IN TWO ROUNDS

- 1st Round will be the submission of Pre-recorded videos

- 2nd Round will be the Grand Finale scheduled for April 2023

*Pre-recorded videos of the organ piece and the hymn of each category are to be submitted to 08053374842 on Telegram or WhatsApp

*Pre-recorded videos of the organ piece and the hymn of each category are to be submitted on or before Tuesday 28th of February 2023

*Five contestants from each category will qualify for the Grand Finale

*First Round winners will be announced via our social media platform

CONCERT ORGANIST & ADJUDICATION

Thorsten Maeder, born in 1969, studied music in Frankfurt/Main, specializing in conducting, organ and piano.

He has performed in the USA in Washington, Boston, Miami and Nassau as well as in Australia and New Zealand. Maeder was invited to Lagos/Nigeria by CHOPIN three times, for concerts and master-classes. He has appeared frequently on radio and television.

SUN-YOUNG KANG-MAEDER

ORGAN RECITALIST

Studied at Sungkyul University (Seoul/Southkorea) organ and piano. After concert examination followed studies with Prof. Gundel Zieschang, Prof. Volker Bräutigam and M.Bräutigam  at ev. Hochschule für Kirchenmusik, Halle /Saale. Kang-Mäder finished her education with concert examination at Hochschule für Musik Köln with Prof. Peter Neumann. Kang-Mäder performs regularly in Germany and many countries in the world. Furthermore she teaches masterclasses in Southkorea. In her home region Kang-Mäder is well known as a brilliant piano teacher.

He is an ordained Priest in the Anglican Diocese of Lagos. He is currently the Archdeacon of Peninsula Archdeaconry, Vicar of St. Peter's Anglican Church, Ikota, Director of the Directorate of Music (Diocese of Lagos), and the Administrator of the Lagos Anglican Diocese Music Academy (LADMA).

He studied Music at the University of Lagos (B.A Hons, 1989), specializing in Composition, and at Masters' level (also specializing  in Composition) at Goldsmiths College, University of London (1991-93). He also has a PGDE, with Music as subject (Unilag, 2000) and a PGDipTh (Lagos Anglican Seminary,2013, now Joseph Abiodun Adetiloye Seminary).

YINKA SOWOLE

ORGANIST EMERITUS

Mr. Yinka Sowole a graduate of Business Administration from, University of Lagos, Akoka. He started playing the piano from age 10. He was assisting at choir rehearsals and occasional services and eventually  was appointed a ‘Trainee’ Organist in 1969. He was appointed as Asst. Organist to Mr. S.S. Taiwo, the then organist and Choirmaster at St. Jude church Ebute Metta in January 1972.

He was honored with the title of Organist Emeritus of the Cathedral of St. Jude in December 2008. He joined St. Paul’s Church Breadfruit as Organist and Choirmaster in June 2016.

ADEJOLA ADEOSUN

SUB-ORGANIST CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF CHRIST, MARINA

Mr Adejola David Adeosun is the sub organist of the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos

He obtained a National Certificate in Education (Music Education) from Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Lagos State (AOCOED) and he is a graduate of Music from The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State.

ABIODUN FALODE

CHOPiN RESIDENT ORGANIST

Abioun Falode is the CHOPiN resident organist. He has numerous qualifications and recognition with distinction from the association board of royal school of music in Organ playing and Piano.

He was a participant at the 2022 annual conference of the hymn society of Great Britain and Ireland held at Lancaster, UK, which was facilitated by CEO of CHOPiN
